Originally filmed as a single documentary, Making The NBXL has now evolved into a six-part global docuseries.
As years of real moments, raw footage, and behind-the-scenes stories accumulated — dating back to 2009, the very journey that made the league possible — it became clear that one film couldn’t contain it all.

In the world of basketball — where power has long belonged to the big leagues and the gatekeepers of an existing system — Making The NBXL tells the story of one man who decided to create a new system and his own lane.
Years ahead of his time, he built quietly, away from the spotlight.
But now, as new leagues emerge chasing dominance, profits, and market share, he’s ready to unveil something different — a movement built on purpose, belief, and the power of independence.
The six-part docuseries follows Christian Villar, MPA - a visionary and entrepreneur, on a lonely journey of turning a vision into reality — a process he has documented over the past 15+ years.
Many have seen the outcome, but no one has seen the process — until now.
It all began in 2009, upon his return from playing professional basketball overseas. He created the NJ-Pros — an independent team built to give overlooked players a genuine shot at professional basketball when the system wouldn’t.
In between, Villar founded The Pros Brand in 2016 — an independent footwear and apparel company created to give players and leagues the endorsement opportunities that the giants of the industry refused to offer.
Since 2020, he has been going back and forth to Dubai — where nothing is impossible — building an entirely new vision: the NBXL
This is the first independent USA–Middle East professional basketball league, uniting players from around the world under ONE LEAGUE, on ONE COURT, where EVERY(ONE) becomes part of basketball history and witnesses matchups the world has never seen before.
At its core, Making The NBXL isn’t just about basketball.
It’s about conviction — the highs and lows, the setbacks, the sacrifices, the resilience, and the courage to believe in yourself — and in something greater — to see victory where others see failure. Defining success on your own terms.
